PCL - Hearing

PCL WEEK 5
Leong
- Mechanic, owner of the workshop – can still make claims if it’s safety related
- Exposed to loud sounds – loud music, shouts, revving of engine
- Can’t hear squeaks – high pitch and frequency – affects his work
- Losing confidence due to inability to hear certain sounds
- Distancing himself from his children
- Gets annoyed and angry easily
- Worse when his children talks behind his back or when there are background noises
- Gotten used to talking louder – probably due to his decreased inability to hear his own voice
- More withdrawn
- a ‘wet blanket’ in parties
- can hear his friends whenever he is in the club
- decides to visit the ENT at his wife’s suggestion but in denial that he needs a hearing aid

ENT – examines and comes out a diagnosis
Audiologist – perform the audiometry test

Tinnitus
- ringing in the ear
- more prominent at night / quiet surroundings
- can be permanent
- hearing – cochlear, tympanic membrane, bones, auditory canal, auditory nerves

Worker’s compensation – DOOSH (Department of Occupational Safety and Health), SOCSO

Hearing loss and hearing aids

Legal issues - suing for compensation
